How It All Vegan: Irresistible Recipes For An Animal-Free Diet
and
The Garden Of Vegan
by Tanya Barnard and Sarah Kramer
Reviewer: Claudette Vaughan

Masquerading as mild-mannered vegans, Tanya and Sarah morph into mighty vegan warriors!

All recipes are original from tattooed, retro fashioned sensed fun-lovin gals.

When How It All Vegan: Irresistible Recipes for an Animal-Free Diet was published in 1999, authors Tanya Barnard and Sarah Kramer were hailed for their fun and avant garde approach to vegan cooking, taking it out of the realm of the staid to create truly original animal-free dishes.

The Garden of Vegan picks up where the first book left off. Tanya and Sarah, vegan chefs extraordinaire, have created truly delectable, truly original new recipes that manage to leave the animal products (that's milk, butter, cheese and honey) where they belong, with their natural owners.

The first book was a bible for vegans, The Garden of Vegan goes one step further, offering recipes for a more sophisticated palate that adds funky twists to familiar dishes bursting with colour and flavour. At the same time, they are fun and easy to prepare, even for those who find boiling water a challenge.

These two life-long friends have produced arguably two of the best vegan cookbooks around at the moment.

Try some of this How It All Vegan recipes out for size: Ginger Peanut Soup, Chive Butternut soup, elegant cream cheese, "Anything Goes" Vegetable stir fry, Tofudgesides, Racy Raisin Rice Pudding, Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie, Huki-La Smoothies or Corri's Gaggle of Green Goo.

How about some of The Garden of Vegan recipes: Hot Artichoke Bake, Green Bean and Fennel Toss, Gorgeous Green Salsa, Oyster Mushroom Saute, A Hungry Person's Stew, Mo Kelly's Salad Dressing, Cinnamon Apple Quesadillas or Pear Ginger Sorbet - just to name at random a few eye-catching dishes!

It's impossible to dislike this cookbook. The gals have also provided natural vegan recipes for flea bustin and for your dog's bad breath. Recipes for skin masks and hair rinses and even 45 Things To Do With Vinegar.

In The Garden of Vegan there's everything a vegan cook could want. Great innovative recipes plus hard-to-get info on how to make our own eye pillows, foot scrubs even fungus foot rubs - ah! the list goes on!

These modern day vegans have your next party covered.

The Cocktail Party is covered, the Clothing Swap party 'to die for food' is covered, the BBQ and of course the Dinner party.

Like it's predecessor with "45 Things to Do With Vinegar", in The Garden of Vegan there's a mind-boggling 45 Things To Do With Baking Soda.

This is just the ticket to win the hearts and minds of meat-eaters over to the vegan side. We highly recommend both books and you can purchase them from the Vegan Society NSW.

Here's some feedback:

" ...a welcome addition to your cookbook shelf. Written in a most engaging way, it's full of recipes that are bound to appeal... There's enough variety that even the meat lovers in your family will eat these dishes. Ciara Jestadt, our teenage vegan and culinary enthusiast, gives the book two thumbs up: 'I've been a vegan for five years and have used many vegan cookbooks. I can honestly say that this and the authors first book, How It All Vegan are two of the best I've tried.' The recipes in their latest book are delicious and easy to make. Plus, there are no impossible to find ingredients!"

"[Sarah and Tanya] teach the world at least two things: that being a vegan can be loads of fun and that vegan food is to die for."
