Animal Liberation kangaroo fundraiser lunch
1.00pm, Sunday 14 March 2010
Tian Ci Vegetarian Restaurant
1006 Victoria Road, West Ryde
Now, more than in any previous time, kangaroos are being exploited
in greater numbers.
Industry continues its propaganda that kangaroos are in 'plague
proportions' and vested interest groups comply with this
fabrication for profit.
The 440,000 Joey Campaign is attracting people from around the
world who are signatories to banning the slaughter of kangaroos.
Hundreds of kangaroos each night are shot through the jaw and left
to drown in their own blood while joeys' heads are crushed with a
boot or lead pipe.
Other joeys die of starvation, dehydration or predation.
We must do everything we can to keep this campaign going here and
overseas!
Animal Liberation Parramatta invites you to a fundraising lunch to
raise money for this cause. It is a yum cha lunch, with a $5
donation per head going to the campaign.

Please attend NSW Parliament House for the battery hens
6:45pm Wednesday 28 October 2009
NSW Parliament, Macquarie Street, Sydney
Please give half an hour for the battery hens and attend
Parliament House Wednesday 6.45pm, 28th October
Cherie Burton, Member of the Legislative Assembly and Member for
Kogarah will be speaking in the house on a Matter of Public
Importance (MPI) and will put forward that the cage system of egg laying
be banned in NSW.
Politicians need to see that the welfare of animals is important
to society and they can only know that by seeing you in the
Gallery and hearing your voice through letters, phone calls,
emails and personal meetings. The more people in the Gallery for
this MPI the greater the gravity with which MPs will give
consideration to this issue. The European Union has banned the
cage system as has California. It is now time for Australia to
end the suffering of millions of hens and NSW can be the leader in
this country in voting to ban the cage.
The Matters of Public Importance (MPI) procedure gives Members a
vehicle to discuss a matter but not have the House make a final
judgement by way of resolution.
Under Standing Order 110, the Speaker will decide as to whether an
issue a Member wishes to raise by this avenue is a matter of
sufficient public importance to take up the time of the House.
One of the criteria the Speaker uses is whether the Matter of
Public Importance procedure is the most appropriate vehicle to
raise the issue. If more than one matter is submitted, the
Speaker is required to make a determination as to which matter is
of the greatest public importance. The Speaker's decision in
these matters cannot be challenged.
Parliament House is on Macquarie Street, please walk up the
stairs, through security, check in at the front desk and be
escorted into the Gallery.
One of the most powerful ways we can help the hens on that night
is to be large in numbers. It won't help the hens if people call
out comments we need to abide by the rules of the House and be a
silent but very visible presence.
Please get as many people along as you can as each person will
represent hundreds who feel as you do.
To advise Ms Burton of attendee numbers please email Lynda at
Animal Liberation on lynda@animal-lib.org.au or phone the office
on (02) 9262 3221.
Emergency protest to stop shooting in National Parks
12pm Tuesday 27 October 2009
Outside NSW Parliament, Macquarie Street, Sydney
Lee Rhiannon, Greens MP and patron of the Vegan Society NSW, is
organising this emergency rally to show the Labor Government that
any decision to allow shooting in National Parks is unacceptable.
Bring your signs. Bring your friends.
Speakers include Greens and environment groups.
The Labor Government is once again doing deals with the Shooters
Party. Labor has made an offer to allow hunting in 13 national
parks in exchange for the support of the two Shooters Party MPs in
the NSW Upper House to help pass government legislation.
Tell the government that you won't stand by as they sacrifice our
national parks to blood sports. Shooters are not
conservationists. Killing native wildlife is their form of
recreational pleasure. Only the power of public opposition will
remove this legislation from the negotiating table.
National parks preserve our native animals and our heritage. They
deserve the highest order of protection. The Shooters Party is
only interested in protecting its own interests, not conservation
or the greater public good.
Please email the following MPs and express your strong opposition
to any deal that would allow shooting in national parks:
Premier Nathan Rees - thepremier@www.nsw.gov.au
Environment Minister John Robertson - office@robertson.minister.nsw.gov.au
Opposition Leader Barry O'Farrell - LOP@parliament.nsw.gov.au
Shadow Environment Minister Catherine Cusack - catherine.cusack@parliament.nsw.gov.au

Independent, Gordon Moyes - gordon.moyes@parliament.nsw.gov.au

Animal Liberation dinner and screening of "Fowl Play"
6pm, Monday 26 October 2009
Dinner at Peace Harmony restaurant at 44 Erskine Street, Sydney
Film afterwards at Animal Liberation office Level 9, 32 York Street, Sydney
$20 (for dinner and film)
"Fowl Play" takes viewers on an unforgettable journey behind the
closed doors of some of Americas largest egg production facilities
and graphically illustrates the heartbreaking plight of laying
hens condemned to lives crowded inside file-drawer-sized cages.
Through touching interviews with animal rescuers, undercover
investigators, veterinarians, and animal behaviourists, we hear
powerful stories motivated by kindness and courage form the
dedicated individuals who are fighting to save the modern day hen
perhaps the most abused and exploited animal on earth.
Connecting the dots between consumer demand for meat, dairy and
eggs and the perpetuation of animal abuse, Fowl Play leaves
viewers with a groundbreaking message of personal responsibility
and the potential each of us holds to change the world one meal at
a time.
The perfect film to show to those family and friends who still eat
cage eggs, and a big wake-up call to those who believe free-range
or barn-laid eggs to be the humane alternative.

6pm Wednesday 7 October 2009
University of Technology, City Campus, University Hall,
745 Harris Street, Ultimo, opposite ABC
(Map)
$10 or $7 concession (including light refreshments)
|
This is a special screening of the new documentary film
"The Burning Season"
to raise money for the Nyaru Menteng Orangutan
Sanctuary in Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo. To date they have
rescued, rehabilitated and released around 700 orangutans.
The documentary is about the deliberately lit fires used to clear the Indonesian jungle to plant palm oil. This deforestation is the source of 20% of global carbon emissions and causing climate change. Many orangutans and other animals who call the rainforest home are killed in the forest fires. Illegal logging and palm oil plantations are destroying the primates' forest habitat and food sources and reducing breeding populations. The film describes the story of a remarkable achievement by one young man, Dorjee Sun, not afraid to confront the biggest challenge of our time. It is a battle against time, but Dorjee's determination to succeed and his award-winning achievement will uplift and entertain audiences and inspire hope in our future. This screening is proudly supported by Voiceless and Institute for Sustainable Futures, University of Technology Sydney. Vegan Rawfood Meetup - Permaculture and Raw Lunch, Epping
Sunday 14 June 2009
Permaculture session 10:00am, lunch 12 noon
Interested in learning some Permaculture principles? Bring a raw dish
to share and after our introduction to planning and designing a
special garden space, enjoy our living foods lunch.
Food: Bring raw dish to share, please read potluck guidelines to
ensure that foods are 100% raw vegan. guidelines are in our files
section on home page.
From the host Lucinda: I discovered Permaculture about 2.5 years ago
and for the past year have been transforming my townhouse garden into
a productive food garden (for myself and the surrounding wildlife).
Since the advent of raw foods into my life (~August last year, with
the occasional foray back into my "old" world) I have changed what
sorts of food I am growing. I almost grow enough veg for myself; am
still waiting for my fruit trees to do their stuff!
I would like to help you successfully grow the foods you want in your
own back yard. I am really keen to increase food security by going
local where possible and lowering our environmental footprint on the
planet. I know how to best design elements to enable you to get the
most from what your growing site has to offer. So I invite you to my
place, to have a little tour of the garden and then, for an hour or
so, to workshop some principles and design methods. I will briefly
introduce what Permaculture is/stands for then we'll get right into
site analysis, sector analysis (my personal favourite) and zoning. I
have created a series of notes (to accompany a workshop I did for
Hornsby Shire Council) and am happy to send out soft copies of these.
They include some handy plant lists e.g. what plants grow well in
shady sites.

Wednesday 6 May 2009, Newcastle,
Monday 11 May 2009, Canberra
The lectures will be delivered by leading US animal protection
litigator Bruce Wagman, who will share his experiences seeking justice
for animals in the courtroom.
Every year billions of farm animals are used for food and food
production in the United States and Australia. The vast majority are
raised on giant factory farms in which they endure lives of permanent
confinement and systemic cruelty, much of which is legal. In recent
times, increased concern about the treatment of these animals has
spawned the growth of the animal law movement in both countries.
In this Series of free lectures for lawyers and the general public,
Bruce Wagman will lift the veil of secrecy on farm animal suffering
and discuss how animals can be protected through strategic and public
interest litigation. Drawing upon his own experience challenging the
big corporations that use and exploit cows, pigs and chickens for
profit, Bruce will demonstrate why lessons learned in America may
apply to Australia and why animal protection law is fast becoming
everyone's business.

global warming.

Dr Neal Barnard talk on Reversing Diabetes
6:30pm sharp, Wednesday 3 December 2008
Dixson Room (note change of place and time)
State Library of NSW
Macquarie Street, Sydney
Dr Neal Barnard is president of the
Physicians Committee for
Responsible Medicine (PCRM). An advocate of low-fat vegan diets,
Dr Barnard has written over a dozen books and published research
papers on nutrition and its impact on human health. He has also
conducted research into alternatives to animal experimentation and
has been active in the animal rights movement.
If you have diabetes or are concerned about developing it, Dr
Barnard's talk could change the course of your life. Although
diabetes is a serious illness that all too often leads to heart
problems, nerve damage, blindness, stroke, or kidney failure, it
doesn't have to be that way.
The new book by Dr Barnard outlines a completely new dietary
approach to preventing, controlling, and even reversing diabetes.
The program is based on a series of research studies Dr Barnard
and his colleagues have conducted over the years, the latest
funded by the US National Institutes of Health. Published in the
August 2006 issue of Diabetes Care, that study found Dr Barnard's
program to be three times more effective than the American
Diabetes Association dietary guidelines at controlling blood
sugar.

As an ultra marathon runner and being involved in other activities

lifesaving, Grant lives life to the MAX. He has embraced the raw
vegan lifestyle 100% and is now a shining example of how an 80/10/10
diet can literally change your life. The 80/10/10 diet is about
"balancing your health, your weight and your life, one luscious
bite at a time". - Dr. Douglas N. Graham.
Grant spent 3 months earlier this year studying as an intern with Dr.
Doug in his fasting retreat. This was followed by bushwalking in
Costa Rica and on his return from the walk, he began a supervised 29
day fast.
In June, Grant travelled to Thailand once again, for
what has become an annual trip to feast on the tropical fruits
especially the durian fruit.
September found Grant returning to America to tour with Dr. Doug at
some of the raw food festivals and to participate in his Sports Camp.
The talk will cover 3 segments: raw health, increased athletic
performance on raw and fasting. This will be followed by afternoon
raw fruit delights and then question and answer time. Grant will also
talk on his next raw retreat to be held at the end of November. Don't
miss out on this one, the last one filled up in a couple of weeks.
This is a huge opportunity to meet Grant and benefit from the wealth
of raw knowledge he has amassed through personal experience.

Our food choices are the most important influences on our health,
well being and the environment. Whether you are already aware of
this and started making changes from the standard diet, are
vegetarian, vegan or even a raw vegan there is always room for
improvement. Nature made us according to her principles which are
simple to follow and when they are obeyed, perfect health happens.
Unfortunately we have unlearned Nature's simple principals through
modern medicine and marketing forces leading us to illness and
disease. If you would like to relearn and rediscover your natural
dietary instincts to attain perfect health, I invite you to join
me as I explain how foods interact with your body and which foods
you are designed to eat. Once we are done talking we will put it
into practice though a preparation of some delicious recipes.
